It Is Official!

Today John became officially ours in the eyes of China. I guess we were granted a 24 hour period to decide for certain. We were certain the day we decided to adopt, but ok today it is for real. Last night John had a real grieving and mourning period that lasted close to two hours. It was heart breaking to watch. He hugged me tight the entire time and wept and screamed and wept some more. What a sweet heart. I can only imagine how terrifying this experience must be for him. He finally decided to go to sleep - right in the middle of our bed. He slept great until 2am when he woke up vomit all over the bed. It was pretty bad, so we had to have our sheets changed in the middle of the night. Then he woke up to some diarrhea. He was a trooper through the whole thing. I am really impressed and proud of him.

We had a really busy day of official paper work. We went back to the Registration office where we got John yesterday. It was interesting to watch him in there. He was really scared. He clung to us both and wouldn't leave our sides. Did he think he was getting a new Mama and Baba? No worries there little man. Then we did notarizations and passport stuff. It lasted until 5:00 at night.

He is doing amazing. Today he can look us in the eyes so easily. He loves looking at pictures of the three of us together. He will point at Rick in the picture and say Baba and then point to Rick. He does the same with me. He makes sure the three of us are together, and really is so comfortable with us.

Tomorrow we are going to visit Eagle's Wings, the Foster care center where he has lived for the last two years. They sent us a letter telling us all about John, they gave us over 300 pictures of his life there, and want to keep in touch. We are really impressed. Please pray that he will be able to visit and leave without further heart ache. It feels right to take him back there, so let's hope we are right.

Here are more pictures to enjoy!

This is at the hotel swimming pool. Gotta love the swimming cap!

This is our Bull Frog Dinner!

  2. Thanks for sharing this story. It is heartbreaking to imagine how terrified and vulnerable he must feel. He will be okay.

We are praying for a quick transition and that he will be comforted with the calm reassurance from God that this the start of a happy, loving and promising life surrounded by people who love him. xo

  3. Lots of prayers for you guys and especially little John. Isaac's side of the family has children that are adopted from China and Korea. We have watched their coming home movies and this reminds me of that. They are all now teens and grown ups and are well adjusted people who know that Heavenly Father sent them to the right parents.
